It’s Time We Had a Heart-to-Heart…

As you may or may not already know, September is heart awareness month, which culminates in World Heart Month on the 29th of September. In 2013, The Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa published that statistics that revealed that about 130 heart attacks and 240 strokes occur daily in South Africa.

That means that approximately 10 people suffer a stroke, and 5 people suffer a heart attack every hour in South Africa.

The Foundation is doing what they can to encourage early detection and the good news is that almost 80% of all cardiac disease is preventable, or treatable.

You can book an appointment at any Clicks Clinic for a FREE blood pressure test during the month of September.  Call 0860-254-257 to book an appointment. For more information about heart health, and where you can get screened, you can also contact the Heart and Stroke Health Line on 0860 1 HEART (43278), email heart@heartfoundation.co.za or view their screening calendar.

But medical treatment can be extremely costly, and chronic diseases can be debilitating.

In addition to having your blood pressure and your cholesterol checked this month, I would like to encourage you to think about what might happen should you or one of your dependents be diagnosed with a serious condition.

Not only could you end up with some extremely high medical bills, but you might find that you are unable to work, or earn an income. There is also the matter of applying for dread disease or life cover after being diagnosed with a chronic condition- many policies cite this as an exclusion and the longer you leave it, the more difficult you could find it to get adequate cover for yourself and your family.

Let’s put the protective measures in place to ensure that you and your family will have enough to live on, whatever the future brings.

Get in touch to set up an appointment for us to discuss your current dread disease and life cover, and to make sure that you and your loved ones are fully covered in the event you are diagnosed with a serious condition.

Please also let me know if there’s anyone you think could benefit from a free consultation with me. You can Click Here to enter their details and I’ll get in touch.
