Are You Ready for the End of the Year?

Season’s greetings,

I hope that as the year starts to wind to a close that you have started to make plans to relax and to spend quality time with your nearest and dearest. In between planning parties, braais and seaside getaways, however, I would like to ask you to think about just a couple of things before the silly season gets properly underway:

Is Your Will up to Date?

I realise that this is a very dour topic to raise while everyone around you is mixing cocktails and hanging fairy lights, but your last will and testament is one of the most important documents you’ll ever sign in your life. Should anything (touch wood) happen to you, your family will need to rely on your will in order to secure their financial protection.

Before you go backpacking through Borneo, or just down to Umhlanga, please can I ask you to review your will and make sure that everything is as up to date as possible?

I will happily to make time to advise you should you have any questions with regards to making, or updating your will.

Don’t go bananas with your year-end bonus

That 13th cheque (if you’re lucky enough to get one) can feel like ‘free money’, and it’s easily to blow this on gifts for loved ones- and yourself- during the summer holidays.

But I would like you to think carefully about what you spend your money on this year, and ask yourself if this is something you really need, or just really, really want. Saving and making your money work for you starts with small steps, so perhaps this is the year to take the first step and say ‘no’ to the seasonal shopping splurge.

Perhaps give some money to charity on behalf of your family instead, or make some home-made gifts for a change. Quality gifts and expensive gifts are not necessarily the same thing.

My Movember attempt

As many of you will be aware, November is also ‘Movember’ month, where men from all around the world make the great ‘beard sacrifice’ and stop shaving our upper lips in an effort to raise funds and awareness for men’s cancers. Whether you’re a ‘Mo Bro’ or a ‘Mo Sister’, you can join the cause online.

In the meantime, here’s the lip-tickling result of my efforts to grow a mo’ over the last few weeks.

What do you think?

Would you buy a used car from me?

Have a safe and fulfilling festive season and please get in touch if there’s anything I can do to help you meet your financial goals for 2016!
